All the work is oil on canvas painted in a symbolic surrealistic style. I choose themes that are interesting and applicable to modern philosophies, scientific theories and medical discoveries. The majority of the work is in the outdoor landscape. I begin with dozens of small preliminary sketches then combine into the final drawing to be painted. I use diagonal lines to create energy and movement. The painting evolves and as new images emerge intuitively they are incorporated into the work as well. - Claudia Backes
