| Karen was born near Chicago and grew up mostly in Lexington, Ky. A self taught artist, she began drawing and painting at an early age because of her love for horses. Later she moved to Iowa and spent most of those 25 years living and working on a farm raising hogs, cattle, sheep, goats and Arabian horses. Many long, cold nights were spent in the barn helping a doe to kid or a ewe to lamb. Many of her paintings and sculptures come from quiet moments like this. Karen paints from her real life experiences and enjoys capturing those precious moments. In 2001 she moved to Longwood, FL to pursue a business career in faux finishing, murals and fine art. Karen owns her own business and has her work displayed in many fine homes and businesses in the Orlando area. Karen has won many art awards including Honorable Mention at the 1999 Iowa State Fair Fine Arts, the Award of Distinction in the 2001 and 2002 Galeria al Fresco in Downtown Orlando, and has exhibited in 2002 at the Casselberry City Hall and in 2005 at the Seminole County Services Building in Sanford. She recently exhibited in the 2004 and 2005 Doggie Art Festival in Winter Park, and won Honorable Mention in the 2005 Longwood Arts and Crafts Festival. "My life is my art, and my art is my life. I thank God for the gifts He has given me and for what He has brought me through. My hope is that others would be able to see Him through my work." - Karen King |
